Music at Temple Shalom
At Temple Shalom, our unique and beautiful music plays a prominent role in enriching our community's Jewish experience. In addition to our uplifting musical services for Shabbat, Holidays and Festivals, Temple Shalom has a tradition of presenting a broad array of engaging musical performances as part of our cultural programming. These concerts vary from year to year, and have included music of Jewish interest, and local composers and performers, both vocal and instrumental. Please see our calendar of events for scheduled upcoming concerts.
Rock Shabbat
Rock Shabbat is a unique musical Shabbat celebration that you will not find elsewhere. Composed by Rabbi Lipson, featuring the voices of Rabbi Lipson, Cantor Sklar, our own seven piece rock band and our tremendous Junior Choir students, Rock Shabbat services bring our community together in joyful celebration. Professionally recorded CD's of the Rock Shabbat Service are available in the Temple office.
Adult Volunteer Choir
Temple Shalom is fortunate to have a talented and dedicated volunteer choir ranging from teenagers to seniors. The volunteer choir plays a prominent role in enriching our High Holy Day services and also performs at our community Interfaith Thanksgiving service and at select events and concerts for our community throughout the year. The Temple Shalom Volunteer Choir has been in existence for over 35 years under the masterful direction of Alice Lipson and greatly enriches our services and concerts through beautiful choral music. Rehearsals for High Holy Day services are held mostly over the summer, and rehearsals for other events are scheduled on some evenings throughout the school year. If you have a love of music, we encourage you to sing with us! Please see our website calendar for rehearsal and performance dates, or contact Cantor Shirah Sklar for more information.
Junior Choir
At Temple Shalom, we believe that music is a critical part of a rich and joyful Jewish education and experience. Religious school students who love to sing are encouraged to join our wonderful junior choir made up of 4th-6th graders. Students meet for choir during Sunday school hours to prepare for their participation in concerts and Rock Shabbat services throughout the year.
